DAVID MOORE BIO (long)
At the age of 26, composer and multi-instrumentalist David Moore has been quick to establish himself as a strong presence in New York's creative music community. In 2006, after receiving his BM from The New School for Jazz and Contemporary Music, David founded his own ensemble Bing and Ruth, a group whose current membership includes two clarinets, two female voices, piano, two cellos, contrabass, and percussion. The ensemble has since kept an active performance schedule and has released two albums, "Kentile Floors" (2007), and "Bing and Ruth" (2006).  Notable performances from the band include two concerts for the Wordless Music Series (including one that additionally saw David take the stage alone to perform selections from J.S. Bach's "Goldberg Variations), an appearance at this past summer's WFMU festival, two shows for the Stochastic Brooklyn series at Barbes, and a live in-studio recording for WFMU.  David was also awarded the 2009 MATA Festival Commission and a MATA Film Commission; both awards culminating with a new multimedia piece premiered by Bing and Ruth at the 2009 MATA Festival in New York City.

In addition to his national and international touring schedule, David performs regularly at many of New York's most established venues for new music and the avant-garde including The Stone, The Tank, (Le) Poisson Rouge, The Knitting Factory, Barbés, Issue Project Room, Center for Improvised Music, Zebulon, and the Brooklyn Lyceum.  He is also well known for his penchant to give performances in unique spaces not normally associated with live music.  In the past he has performed concerts in an abandoned meat locker, a chicken coop, a vacant apartment, a warehouse rooftop, and numerous art galleries.

Since relocating from Kansas in 2004, David has released four albums of original work.  In addition to the pair from Bing and Ruth, he has two records documenting his compositions for solo piano; "Neighborhood Shifts" (2007) and "Book of Days" (2005).  He has worked tirelessly as a composer for film and installation, and as both performer and composer has appeared on releases by a diverse roster of record labels including Velour, Palmetto, Brownswood, Because Music, and Kemado.  David has appeared in or been featured by WNYC, WFMU, The New York Times, NPR, Downbeat, Pitchfork, Brooklyn Vegan, the Guardian, Jazzwise, Flavorpill, and the New York Post. He founded and runs the independent record collective 'Happy Talk', and recently completed work on a new Bing and Ruth album currently slated for release in 2010.
